Thorek Memorial Hospital Joins the IPC

Thorek Memorial Hospital, a new IHA member, has joined the Illinois Purchasing Collaborative (IPC). Thorek is a not-for-profit, acute care facility with 104 staffed beds and is located in Chicago.

Don Hawkinson, director of materials management at Thorek, is looking forward to the supply chain savings the IPC can offer their hospital. “Although we were already receiving great value as a direct affiliate of Premier, we believed that value would increase if we transitioned to affiliate membership through the IPC,” Hawkinson stated.

During Thorek’s evaluation of the IPC program in December 2007, more than $84,000 in savings was initially identified for the hospital. The analysis was based on IPC regional contracts covering five separate lines of business with no product conversions required. Since that analysis took place, the IPC has launched 22 new regional contracts which should provide Thorek with even greater savings. Thorek Memorial Hospital will also benefit from IPC’s customized member field support and peer networking opportunities.

Thorek has been providing quality, progressive health care to Chicago residents since 1911. The hospital was founded on the philosophy of providing “a human atmosphere where the patient is a person rather than a case”.

With the addition of Thorek, there are now 26 hospitals participating in the IPC. Members currently benefit from 51 regional contracts that are providing savings of more than $2.32 million.
