IPC Featured in Modern Healthcare
The Illinois Purchasing Collaborative (IPC) was featured in an article in the Aug. 31 issue of Modern Healthcare describing the benefits of regional group purchasing organizations. Efforts such as the IPC "suggest a growing number of healthcare providers are finding value in the nimbleness of small groups that share more aligned purchasing and supply-chain goals," the article said.
The IPC is affiliated with Premier, but also writes contracts for regional suppliers and services. "Regional contracting by itself probably doesn't deliver better cost controls than national contracting," IPC Chief Operating Officer Patrick Sonin told Modern Healthcare. "But if you put regional contracting efforts on top of the national contracts and write contracts for regional suppliers and services that the nationals don't offer... that's where I think you find real value." The 88 regional contracts negotiated by the collaborative provide members with an average savings of about 13% greater than what they would get through Premier-negotiated contracts, Sonin said.
